5 Moments Your Wedding Photographer Can Capture For You Forever

What little girl hasn’t dreamed of the moment she first steps into her wedding gown and is carefully zipped or buttoned in, turning slowly to face her friends and loved ones? Perhaps you’ve envisioned it in front of a window, cracked to let the sea breeze drift through. Maybe it’s a lavish hotel room at a large estate and gardens outside where you’ll soon say your I do’s. Brides imagine moments like these, and after experiencing them, return to them for decades, perhaps even someday carefully flipping through their wedding albums with little girls of their own.

With a professional photographer or videographer team, returning to special moments like your first look with your bridesmaids can be easier, smoother, and more beautiful than you can imagine. Images have power, and when you flip through the pages or scroll through the files of your wedding album, you’ll be transported back to that day.

Since 2015, we have worked with couples all over the world, capturing meaningful moments to cherish for eternity, and we want to share some of the not-to-miss wedding moments we love best. Read on for our Top 5 Moments Your Wedding Photographer Can Capture For You Forever!

1. Getting Ready

We love the intimacy of getting-ready shots. They usually take place indoors, which gives us as photographers control over things like lighting and the use of space, and we can be creative with photos of your jewelry, stationary, makeup, and accessories.

Are you integrating any family heirlooms into your outfit, or tucking away any good-luck tokens? Capturing images of these, as well as any love notes you may have from your partner, make sweetly sentimental pictures.

2. First look with parents or siblings

If you are doing a first look with any family members or friends, these can make for special moments as well. Fathers, in particular, are apt to look tenderly at their daughters when they see them in their bridal gown for the first time.

Since weddings are a time when generations get dressed up and come together, we are always sure to capture multi-generational photographs. There are pros and cons to formal, arranged photos and candid photos with family, and we like to capture a mix of both. In the event that a loved one has passed away or is unable to join the celebration, we speak with the bridal couple regarding ways to honor that person so that the photographs of the event include them in some way if possible.

3. Pictures of guests and groom as bride walks down the aisle

When it’s time for the bride to walk down the aisle, we like to capture not just the bride herself, but also the faces of her partner and the guests as they watch her approach. This is often among the most exciting moments of a wedding celebration, and photographing the emotion of the moment - sometimes raw and sometimes more polished - is always thrilling.

4. Setting, Food and Drinks

As many couples realize, the food and drinks that you spent so much time tasting and planning and perfecting can go mostly unnoticed by the bridal couple on their big day. There’s frequently so much emotion and so many people to greet that even if you have time to enjoy a few bites, you’re not likely to recall how the dishes were arrayed, or what the cake looked like before slicing into it.

We like to photograph images of the ceremony and reception sites, the tablescapes, arches or backdrops, unique lighting, and the food and drinks at each wedding celebration. These aspects are usually so intentionally thought-out and we want to ensure they are enjoyed by the bridal couple.

5. Pictures of intimate/special moments or traditions that are uniquely memorable

Whether you are having a contemporary wedding or one that is steeped in tradition, we keep our eyes out for intimate and special moments and aim to capture these through our lenses.

These may look like:

They could be photos of a tea ceremony, a performance of folk music, or a traditional dance. The main thing is that we try to capture moments of special meaning for our couples.

Conclusion

How do we distinguish between regular and photo-worthy moments at weddings, and how can you ensure that the moments of most meaning are captured at your wedding so that you can have these images for years to come? This skill comes with years (or decades) of experience, and even then, there is admittedly an element of luck. Having a trained team of professionals is certainly important, and having access to and knowledge of powerful editing tools makes it possible to touch up raw images.
